April is a wonderful time to stay on a farm;
Lambs are gambling in the fields (you may be really lucky and witness a lamb being born or be able to bottle fed an orphan tame lamb), calves are being born, chicks are hatching, birds are nesting, tadpoles can be found in ponds and the Spring flowers are in full bloom; daffodils, crab apple blossom and Primroses litter the Devon banks – The primrose is Devon’s county flower!
We love to share these special moments on a farm with you, whether you’re staying in a self catering cottage or B&B accommodation, in a totally unique farm location.
In addition to the Easter school holidays, there are some great celebratory dates in April too, including – April; 1st April Fools Day (don’t forget to catch someone out before 12 noon), 15th Good Friday, 17th Easter Sunday, 18th Easter Bank Holiday Monday and on the 23rd St Georges Day. There’s lots of Easter Egg hunts taking place at various locations around North Devon including; RHS Rosemoor 9th – 24th April, Hartland Abbey & Gardens 17th & 18th April, Clovelly 4th – 18Th April.
In season crop – British Asparagus from Braunton (see Braunton Asparagus Facebook page) which can be enjoyed at lots of local eateries during April.
Looking ahead there is the May Bank holiday at the beginning of May and then an extra long Bank Holiday at the beginning of June; Thursday 2nd & Friday 3rd June, celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee, perfect for a long weekend or two in North Devon.
Happy April everyone!
