We’re well into summer now, and what better way to spend a pleasant evening than at one of North Devon’s open-air theatre productions?
The shows will no doubt prove to be a popular attraction in the area, with stunning venues giving you and the family a chance to unroll a blanket, tuck into a picnic and enjoy the night’s entertainment.

This summer’s productions promise to keep theatregoers of all ages and tastes well rewarded with some fantastic productions. Lady Angela Stucley, owner of Hartland Abbey with its remarkable gardens, has again been chosen to play host to this years performances and is looking forward to her role: “It is a perfect reason to get together with family and friends, bring rugs or picnic chairs and enjoy a night under the stars.” Events this year include A Midsummer Night’s Dream the Musical on Wednesday 26 July at 5pm; Pandora’s Box on Tuesday 8 August at 5pm, Bad Dad on 24 August at 5 pm and Twelfth Night on Wednesday 30 August at 6:30pm.
Hartland Abbey is just one of many wonderful venues to host some fantastic productions this summer, but it’s by no means alone. The Valley of Rocks near Lynton makes an exceptional open-air backdrop set against dramatic and beautiful scenery, and it’s set to host an array of entertainment for both the local community and holidaymakers of North Devon & Exmoor. Each year brings a different Shakespearean classic – bring a bottle of wine and someone special for a truly wonderful experience.

Other venues include Castle Hill Gardens at both Great Torrington and Filleigh, South Molton; Clovelly Court, Arlington Court, Tapeley Park at Bideford, Holworthy Badock Gardens and Blackberry Farm at Milton Damerel to mention a few. The performances are sumptuous and varied, suitable for all ages groups.
Romeo and Juliet is just one example being staged at Reforge Retreat at Black Torrington, Castle Hill at both Great Torrington and at Filleigh, near South Molton.

Other Shakespearean productions including Twelfth Night and the musical A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
